Upsizing bitmap photos and images turns out to be a trick business. It used to be anything more than a 50% enlargement would result in an image with awful jagged curve and lines plus even splotchy colors. But the new photo editors have better algorithms for upsizing or enlarging photos and this demo shows some of the tricks to watch along the way.

As noted in the demo, there are some specialized tools for enlarging images by a factor of 5-12 times with significantly improved fidelity. See either Genuine Fractals or S-Spline Pro for details on how to do large scale upsizing and enlargements.
